Located on Diagon Alley, Storm's Apothecary Shop is the place to go when you have a prescription from St Mungo's (or any other healer). You can also purchase ready-made remedies and bulk ingredients, and in late August, Storm does a brisk trade in Potions supplies for students returning to Hogwarts. Unlike many apothecary shops, Storm's shop is scrupulously clean, and smells wonderful - the scents of spices and herbs mingle with those of baking bread and wood polish. The walls of the shop are lined with wooden shelves containing many jars, bottles and vials, both small and large. Beneath the shelves are the rows of small, square drawers containing herbs and other ingredients. You can leave your prescription to pick up later, or stay and chat while Storm mixes your potion, powder or salve. She'll also give advice on treating minor maladies, so don't be afraid to ask. Storm lives above the shop, and if it's really urgent, she'll get up in the middle of the night to fill an emergency prescription or even deliver a baby. Adjacent to the main shop is the Dispensary, a large room with several big cupboards in which bulk quantities of herbs and other potion ingredients are stored. A locked cupboard, protected by several spells, contains the more-dangerous ingredients. There is a large, scrubbed table, and a stove with a big oven for drying herbs (Storm also bakes bread in this oven) and cauldrons of various sizes. The stove is large, taking up almost all of one wall, so that multiple potions can be brewed at one time. In one corner are several deep sinks, for washing herbs. There are many utensils for use in preparing medicines. antique bottles and jars are arranged along the ledge of the large window, along with pestles and mortars of different designs, which Storm has collected over the years. It's a brightly-lit, warm room, sometimes smelling deliciously of herbs and baking bread. Occasionally, however, if Storm is brewing something less than pleasant, you'd be happier not entering! In contrast to Storm's cluttered apartment, the dispensary is kept very neat and orderly.

Storm stood at the broad counter, carefully weighing small amounts of a fine, yellow-brown powder into little crystal vials. Her hangover cure was one of her best-sellers. It could be purchased in various sizes of container, and today she was replenishing her stock of single-dose vials. People often liked to have one in their pockets when they went out for a boozy evening, and she usually carried several herself, which she gave as free samples from time to time. She hummed to herself as she worked. Much as she'd loved her old job as a midwife, delivering the future generations of witches and wizards, life was much more peaceful now that she had her own shop, and could work at her own pace most of the time.
A faint snore sounded from beneath the counter, and she grinned and looked down. Moose, her huge, hairy Old English Sheepdog was asleep at her feet. She saw his paws twitch, and his tail thump slightly, and she wondered what he was dreaming about. She went back to her work. Another half-hour should see her finished with the task, and then perhaps she'd make coffee, and go and sit on one of the benches outside her store. She enjoyed sitting there, watching the activity, and exchanging a few words with people who knew her.

Storm stood at the long scrubbed table in the dispensary. ingredients were ranged around her, as well as the tools she used for mixing potions, and a big cardboard box packed with crystal vials. As she worked, she listened for the sound of anyone entering the shop. She'd had to install a bell on the door to alert her.
The shop was very busy these days, and she no longer had time to sit in the sun outside the shop, exchanging gossip with passers-by. When she wasn't mixing potions, she was serving customers. She was just glad she could clean up with magic. If she'd had to do it the muggle way, she'd have had to give up sleeping.
With so much to do, she knew she needed an assistant - even if it was just counter help, someone to greet customers, take payments, and call her if it got more complicated than that. The problem was, finding time to go out and hire someone.
The bell pinged, and Storm sighed, wiping off her hands on a cloth before heading through to the shop.

Hermione walked down Diagon Alley, stopping to talk to some people on the way, before finally pushing open the door to the Apothecary. She smiled. This place was ALWAYS so well kept. Seeing Storm coming out from the back room, her smile widened. "Morning, Storm. How are you today?" she said politely. "I have a question to ask you, if that's okay." She shrugged. "You wouldn't bee looking for someone to help around the shop would you? Even just a bit?" she asked. Last stop before Scorpius would be scrubbing floors at the hospital! Despite him being disowned, there were not many people that were going to take in a Malfoy to work.

"Sure, ask away." Storm listened as Hermione asked if she needed help in the shop, and her eyes widened. "Been up to a spot of legilimency?" she asked with a grin. "As you were walking in, I was just thinking I could use an assistant but I don't even have time to go out and hire someone. Mostly for counter help - you know, greeting customers, taking payment. But if they were interested, I'd be willing to teach them the basics of preparing potions and so on."
Storm conjured a stool for Hermione to sit down, and leant against the counter as she asked, "Got someone in mind?"

Hearing Storm say she'd just been thinking about it, Hermione laughed. "Great minds think alike," she chuckled. She sat down on the seat conjured for her, and looked up at Storm. "Well, yes. I do." She sighed. Here we go again "Well, I'm guessing you know Scorpius Malfoy? Well, he's with my daughter, Rose, and well, he needs extra money, to help pay for their baby that's nearly here. I was wondering, would you consider taking him on?"

"Scorpius Malfoy and... your daughter?" Okay, that was unexpected. A Weasley and a Malfoy? Storm frowned. Either they'd hushed it up, or she was really out of touch with the local gossip? Quite possibly the latter, she couldn't remember the last time she'd had a free moment to read a newspaper.
"He needs money? But - isn't his family the richest in Britain or something?"

"Yes," Hermione replied to Storm's shock. "Money. Yes, well, they are. Uh - Scorpius was disowned for being with Rose. I don't suppose you've heard then, that Mr and Mrs Malfoy have had another child. A son. Scorpius isn't going to be reinstated anytime soon." Hermione put on an almost pleading look. "Could you give him a go? I know he's a Malfoy, but he's a lot different to his family."

Storm shook her head slightly. "I seem to have missed a lot lately. I told you I was busy..." She looked thoughtful. "They've disowned him? Well, I know what that's like. My own family disowned me - couldn't cope with having a witch in the family." If anything could be guaranteed to get Storm's sympathy, it was that.
"Well, if he's standing by Rose - and willing to work to support her - then he certainly sounds like he's different from the other Malfoys." She remembered the rumours about Draco Malfoy's trail of broken hearts and unacknowledged bastards in his youth. And as for Draco's father... well, Storm could personally attest to his exploits, and that certainly hadn't been in his youth!
"How old is Rose? Fifteen, sixteen? How's she holding up? It can't be easy on her." Pregnant and at school - something else Storm knew about all too intimately. She met Hermione's gaze sympathetically.
"Scorpius is still at school? So this would be work during the holidays that he needs?" Well, one of her busiest times was the summer, preparing potions kits for sale in August, when the Hogwarts students would be buying supplies for the school year. If the kid could give her a hand with that, it would be a huge help.
"Normally, I'd have to interview a potential assistant. But since you vouch for him, I'll waive that. He can start as soon as the school year finishes - I'll pay him the going rate for a shop assistant, and if he's willing to do overtime, I'll pay extra for that. But I'll expect him to work hard. This will be a real job. I hold to what I said, though - if he's interested, I'm prepared to give him a grounding in the real business of being an apothecary."

"Rose? She's 15," Hermione answered. "She seems to be handling it all very well. She's always been so grown up. She's handling this better than Ron," she chuckled. "Yes, just over the holidays. He offered to give up school to work, but I said he couldn't do that. Is that okay? Just holidays?" she asked. When Storm said she'd give him a go, she smiled, relieved. "Thank you so much, Storm. You're a god send. I think he's willing to do anything to support his new family."

"Well, if he's as keen to work as you say, then we'll both benefit. I know what he's going through, being disowned." She smiled at Hermione. "And I know what Rose is going through, too. I had a baby at sixteen." She wasn't quite ready to tell her just how far the similarity went. But she definitely had a fellow feeling for the teenager, still at school and pregnant by a Malfoy!
"Tell Scorpius he can owl me if he has any questions. And maybe he can give me an idea of where his strengths lie. If he's good at Potions, for example, it would be a big plus."

Hermione gave Storm a sympathetic look as she explained that she could relate to both of the kids. "Must have been hard," she murmured affectionately. As Storm continued, she nodded. "Yes, of course. I'll owl him and tell him the good news I suppose. Rose has been pestering me to find him a job, she's almost due and Rose wants a house of her own! 15 and wanting a house. She's crazy," she chuckled.

Storm laughed. "Well, you can't say she's not ambitious." She paused for a moment, thinking. "But maybe she's not all that crazy. Hermione, I've been thinking of buying a cottage - you know, as an investment. But I'm not ready to move off Diagon Alley, I like being on the premises at night, in case someone needs me in an emergency. So I'd be looking for tenants just to keep the place lived-in. Maybe - would Rose and Scorpius be interested in living there - for a minimal rent? It would help out all of us."

Hermione's right eyebrow raised slightly as Storm spoke, and she considered her proposal. "Hmmm," she murmured when Storm finished. Then she nodded. "I think it's a great idea. I'll owl her as well, and ask her. I'm sure she'll like the idea. Where abouts were you thinking?"
