"Not exactly a Malfoy? What do you...?" She suddenly remembered her own father, telling her she was "...no longer a Desjardins..." "You mean - Scorpius was disowned?" She felt a sudden wave of sympathy for the boy. She knew exactly how he must be feeling about now. "But - he's an only child. That means - if he's been disowned, it's an end to the Malfoy line!" However much she disliked the pureblood mania with bloodlines and inheritance, she couldn't fail to be shocked by the idea that one of the most prominent and ancient families would cease to exist for lack of an heir.

Ceallach sighed, nodding her head. "It was horrible. Poor Scorpius' face. But, there must be something going on. Like, Draco wouldn't have put up the risk of his family name dying out. He's too proud for that. I can still remember my father mourning Iason more because there'd be no one to carry on the line. Because, any child of mine wouldn't be an o Raghallaigh. So, maybe there's something going on about that we don't know about. He wouldn't have disowned his only son on a whim. No matter how angry he was." Ceallach shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know."

Nathalie nodded. "Yes - I can't really believe that Draco Malfoy would disown the only Malfoy heir in a fit of temper. Maybe he's got some by-blow he's planning on recognising. Or - how did his wife look? Like she'd gained some weight, maybe...?" Surely, Nathalie thought, Draco would only disown his son if he had another candidate for his heir.

Ceallach shrugged. "His wife? She - she wasn't there. She was 'unfortunately indisposed'," shesaid, trying to imitate Draco's voice as best she could. "Maybe she - maybe she wasn't ... well enough to come," she suggested. "It would be very silly of Draco to disown Scorpius without a guaranteed replacement."

"Indisposed - that could certainly mean she's pregnant and not well enough to go out. You're right, it would be madness for Draco to disown Scorpius unless he knew he had another heir. Otherwise he'd have probably tried to buy the Weasleys off, and get Scorpius married to the first pureblood bride he could find." Nathalie knew how things worked with these pureblood fanatics. She'd been raised by two of them!
She looked seriously at Ceallach. "Would it help if I talk to Scorpius? I mean, I know first-hand what it's like to be disowned. Or maybe Sara, if he's more comfortable talking to someone nearer his own age."

Ceallach nodded, agreeing with Nathalie. "This is all too complicated for kids their age," she said, sighing softly. As Nathalie spoke again, Ceallach shrugged. "It could. You could try. I dunno if he wants to talk, but maybe if it was coming from someone who knew what was going on," she shrugged.

Nathalie thought for a moment. "Perhaps you could tell him that he can talk to me if he wants - you can tell him I was disowned, and that I'm here if he wants to talk. That gives him the option." She sighed, then a thought struck her. "How is Scorpius going to stay at school if he's been disowned?"

Ceallach nodded. "Yeah, that might be a good idea. It might a little less ... 'in your face'," she agreed. She smiled. "Umm, Mrs Weasley offered him a job during the holidays at St Mungos, and she said she'd help pay his fees. I think she wants to keep Rose happy, to be honest," she explained. "She said it was her money to do what she will. And if it's to keep her daughter and the father of her baby together, then that's what she was going to use it for."

Nathalie listened with growing surprise as Ceallach explained the arrangements made for Scorpius. The whole situation was just getting more and more surreal. "Mrs Weasley is going to pay for Scorpius to continue at Hogwarts... well, I suppose it would make sense from her point of view. If Scorpius finishes school, he'll be able to get a better job, to support his family. But... who would ever have imagined it." She stood up. "Well, I can't have whiskey, but I need something. I'm going to make some tea - do you want some?"

"I know! I was shocked. Everyone was. But, yeah, it makes perfect sense." Ceallach watched Nathalie as she stood up. "Oh, yeah okay," she replied to the tea. She probably shouldn't drink this whole bottle by herself! "So, anyway, how's Zach?" she asked, smiling.

As she made the tea, Nathalie grinned, and replied, "Oh, Zach's fine. Very fine!" She smirked, remembering the weekend just past. She'd heard that some couples had problems when they were trying to conceive a baby - all the stress and high expectations. But the whole idea had just seemed to inspire Zach. "Unfortunately he had to leave again this morning, but at least he was home at the right time. Now I just have to wait and see..." She paused, hoping desperately it had worked, and allowing herself to imagine for a moment what it would be like to have her own child. She wanted a baby so badly it was almost a physical ache.

Ceallach watched Nathalie talking about Zach, and about babies. She kept a smile on her face the entire time, but inside she was aching. She wanted that. She wanted that unconditional love. That family. She stood up and walked over to Nathalie. "I'm sure there's one in there's one in there already," she assured her, dropping to her knees. She put her hands on Nathalie's stomach, and said in a very cooey voice, "You're going to have the best mum and dad in the world. You lucky thing."

Nathalie watched in surprise as Ceallach walked over and knelt down before her. When her friend started talking to the supposed baby, she laughed. "Ceal, even if there's a baby in there, I don't think it has ears yet!" She pulled Ceallach to her feet, and smiled. "Thanks anyway."
She poured out two cups of tea, and gave one to Ceallach. As the two women sat down again - Nathalie taking an armchair this time, instead of sitting behind her desk - she said, "I'm really sorry things didn't work out with Aidan. But I'm sure you'll meet someone else soon. Maybe the one! You could be announcing your engagement soon!"
Nathalie blushed slightly. "That reminds me - Zach and I are, well, we're going to make things official. We're going to get married in the spring - nothing elaborate, just a quiet little ceremony, but we'd like you to be there. Sara will be there of course, and...oh." She hesitated. "Aidan will be there too - I mean, they're twins after all. I hope you'll still come."

Ceallach laughed as Nathalie pulled her to her feet. "I know that! It's the thought that counts!" she chuckled, tapping Nathalie's nose. They sat back down again, and drunk their tea. Ceallach almost choked on the hot liquid as Nathalie spoke again. She shrugged. "Oh, I rather doubt it," she said, trying to cover her slip. Then she sighed as Nathalie spoke again. "Of course. Oh congratulations!" she exclaimed, smiling. "Nathalie, if you're asking me to come, and you want me there, what sort of friend would I be to refuse. Of course I'll come. I won't miss your day for the world!" She chuckled softly, and smiled excitedly, showing Nathalie she meant every word.
"Nat, I want to tell you something, but you have to promise not to tell. I know this sounds really childish and everything. But, I think I may have found someone. Not the one, not yet. But definately someone. I just - I don't know if he wants anyone to know." She groaned, desperate to tell. "Erik. Erik Jensen," she said quickly, then turned her face, blushing slightly.

Nathalie nodded. "I'm glad you'll be there - but I would have understood if you didn't want to be around Aidan for a while." She was going to have a little word with Aidan some time, she decided grimly.
When Ceallach went on, Nathalie leaned towards her, feeling like a schoolgirl anxious for some juicy gossip. "Ceal, that's great! Do I know him?" She was a bit surprised when Ceallach named their fellow-teacher, but grinned anyway. "Ceal, he's cute! I know some people think he's a bit, well, that he doesn't take things seriously. But I've always thought there was more to him than meets the eye."
