Rose nodded. "Together. That'll be best, probably," she agreed. As he spoke about her being his responsibility, her smile widened. Then, he called her his fiancee, and she almost squeaked with joy. She put her hand on top of his on her belly for a moment. She was really quite excited about it now. She was going to be his wife and they were having a baby.
He took his hand off her belly, and she watched him as he took the ring off his little finger. Listening, she smiled, and nodded. "Of course I will," she assured him, holding out her left hand. It would probably fit on the right finger, her hands were so small.
"Scorpius," she said, her eyes on his face. "I love you. No matter what."

Scorpius took Rose's hand, and gently slid the ring onto her finger. It fit perfectly. He looked up at her and smiled. "Next Hogsmeade weekend, we'll go to that little shop that sells jewellery, and get a proper engagement ring. One that we've picked together. Maybe we can even get the wedding bands too..."
He was pretty sure that the antique gold signet ring would be worth a lot of money, and he thought it was fitting that he should exchange a symbol of his old family for symbols of the new family he was going to be part of.
Then she spoke, and he returned her intimate gaze, and smiled. "And I love you, Rose. Always." He stood up, taking both her hands in his, and leaned closer to kiss her. Then he said, "We should go and tell your family now. They'll need time to get used to the idea," he said, managing a grin.

Rose smiled as Scorpius slid the ring onto her finger. She was right, it did fit. She looked back up at him, and nodded as he spoke. "Yes, okay," she said, suddenly rather excited. An engagement ring. She was getting married!
She smiled as he returned her words. She watched as he stood up, and she squeezed his hands slightly as he took them. Returning his kiss softly, she smiled. She would never get sick of kissing him. She was sure of that. Then he spoke again, she sighed. "Umm, yeah, good idea. Umm. I don't know where to find them! They're all in different houses!"

Scorpius nodded. "Well, most of them will be in their common rooms. So I can fetch Al - and I'll get one of the Ravenclaw prefects to call Hugo - and you'll have to fetch Victoire and Lily - and James." He had a feeling that James was going to be very awkward about this. "We'll all meet in the Great Hall. They shouldn't be too... difficult in such a public place."

Rose listened, nodding her head. "Yes, okay, I'll get them." She sighed. She was pretty sure Lily and Victoire would be fine. Hugo would get his two cents in, but like she'd listen to him any way. Albus would yell and scream, and James - James would - be James. "Okay, I'll meet you there as soon as," she told him. Leaning up, she kissed him passionately for a short moment. "I love you," she murmured, before she walked off in search of her cousins.

Scorpius found a free table, and pulled a chair out for Rose. Then he sat beside her, and took a quill and parchment from his school bag. He began to write, speaking the words aloud as he wrote. "Grandfather
I received your highly offensive letter and can only assume you have finally gone completely senile..." He looked up at Rose. "Not strong enough?" he asked.

Rose followed Scorpius into the Library and sat in the chair he pulled out for her. She watched and listened as he wrote the beginnings of a letter to his grandfather. As he was reading, she chuckled softly. She couldn't even imagine telling her grandparents they'd gone senile. Grandma Weasley would wollop her!
"No, no. I like that," she chuckled

Scorpius grinned. If he was going to burn the last of his bridges, he might as well have fun doing it. He thought for a moment, then continued to write. "I'm sure money has, in the past, bought you everything you wanted - except, apparently, a good hairdresser. But it won't buy me, or my fiancee." He smirked. His grandfather had always been very vain about his hair, so that little dig should annoy him! He bent over the parchment again. "As you have always told me, the Malfoy name has certain associations. I intend to create new associations. When I start work at St Mungos, cleaning toilets and so forth, I will prove that there's at least one Malfoy who works hard and isn't afraid to get his hands dirty." He looked up at Rose, his eyes glittering with amusement. "If the idea of a Malfoy cleaning toilets doesn't give him high blood pressure, then I don't know what will!"

Rose watched as Scorpius continued writing the letter. She chuckled softly throughout at the digs he was making at his grandfather. This was hilarious! She read the next part, and her eyes widened. Cleaning toilets Of course, he wouldn't be able to do anything more than clean at the hospital. Now, that would be something else, a Malfoy cleaning. She smiled as he looked up at her, and she leant in to kiss his cheek. "I'm sure this'll work. Or at least help," she said, nodding her head.

Scorpius smiled, and pulled Rose closer to kiss her properly. It was strange - when he first got his grandfather's letter, he'd been furious, almost sickened. But now, he was feeling strangely elated. It was almost as if this last attempt to stop him marrying Rose had actually set him free. Free of the rigid expectations of an ancient, aristocratic pureblood family. He picked up his quill, and added another paragraph to the letter. "I will, however, be continuing my education. Rose's parents have generously offered to pay for me to stay on at Hogwarts. The Weasley family have been extremely welcoming and supportive." Well, that was a slight exaggeration, but the idea of a Malfoy being supported - financially or otherwise - by the Weasleys should just about put the final touch on his grandfather's humiliation. He looked at Rose, grinning. "Anything else you can think of?"

Rose gasped softly in surprise as Scorpius pulled her closer to kiss her. She responded, and smiled as he pulled away. She watched as he wrote some more. Extremely welcoming and supportive? If that's what they call that now - it was interesting. Sure, her parents had been supportive - her brother would get over it. Though, she was sure it would do it's job. She shook her head, a smile on her face as Scorpius turned to her. "You're a lot better at this than I am," she chuckled.

Scorpius caught Rose's look when he said the Weasleys had been welcoming. He smiled. "Yeah, I know that's not entirely true. But my grandfather will hate the idea." He laughed at her comment. "I don't think I could write something like this for just anyone. But I've wanted to blast my grandfather since I was a little boy. I've always hated him. Especially since my grandmother...." He paused. He'd never told anyone what he suspected about his grandmother's sudden death. Everyone else seemed to accept that she'd died of dragon pox, but Scorpius had always thought it had been way too convenient... his grandfather had installed a mistress in his Italian mansion with indecent haste... He shrugged. It no longer mattered; after this letter, he'd be blasted from the family tree for sure, if his father hadn't already done it! He looked down at the parchment. He should come up with something really good to end the letter. "Rose and I intend to raise our child to believe that everyone is equal, whether they're muggles, muggle-born, half-blood or pureblood. We both hope our child can spend time with Rose's muggle grandparents, so that he or she can gain an appreciation for non-magical lifestyles.
Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy." He signed his name, and grinned at Rose. "I think that should go over well!"

Rose smiled as Scorpius spoke, then wrote the end of his letter. Her smile widened as he spoke of allowing their child to see her mother's parents. That would not go down with Mr Malfoy! "Oh yes, very well," she chuckled. She leaned closer to him to kiss his cheek. "I'm so excited," she murmured.

Scorpius smiled, and returned Rose's kiss. "I mean that last bit - I want our child to learn about muggle life as well as magical life. For generations my family has taught the kids to hate muggles and muggle-borns. I want to break that cycle. The next generation of Malfoys is going to be different."
He folded the parchment, and sealed it, then took out his wand. He tapped the parchment, and said, "Epistula Asperitas!" After a moment, the sealed parchment began to darken, and turn red. Scorpius picked it up, and found that it was warm to his touch. He grinned. "Looks like the spell worked. Let's go to the owlery and send it off. I just wish I could see my grandfather's face when he gets this!"

Rose smiled softly as Scorpius spoke. I'm happy about that," she told him. She watched as he folded and sealed the parchment and then turn it into a Howler. She grinned at him. "Okay, let's go," she chuckled, jumping up, her hand in his and dragging him out of the library.
