"I don't give a d**n what Grandfather thinks - he's a poisonous old man who cares for nothing but himself and the family name!" Scorpius was shouting, but he managed to get his temper back under control. In a tight, hard voice, he said, "And of course he's going to hear about it, because Rose and I are going to get married and raise the baby together!"

Rose stepped back, watching, her eyes wide as Scorpius and Mr Malfoy argued. She didn't realise until a pair of arms wrapped around her, that she had backed into her mother. She looked up, adn saw in Hermione's face the acceptance of the situation. Ron was still standing, staring at her, his face red with rage. She turned her face from him, trying to block him out. There was nothing to stop this now. When Scorpius retorted to his father, saying they were going to get married, her mouth widened, then she smiled. She broke free of her mother, and positioned herself between the feuding Malfoy's, turning her back on Mr Malfoy. "Married? Are we?" she asked him.

Draco stared at his son, speechlessly. The boy was planning to marry the girl - a Weasley? His grandchild, and potentially the next heir to the Malfoy name and estates, would also be the grandchild of Weasley and the Granger woman.
He shook his head, sickened. He could not stomach that idea. Ignoring the girl as she stood between him and Scorpius, he snarled,
"Go ahead, then. Marry the little slut, have your happy little family - but you will not be welcome in my family. I will no longer acknowledge you as my son or my heir." He stormed to the door, wrenched it open, and stalked down the hallway.
His threat was no empty one. His wife's indisposition was, in fact, a severe bout of morning sickness. And they had found out just the previous day that the child she was carrying was a boy.
If Scorpius insisted on marrying the girl and raising the brat, then he would be disowned.

Ron's eyes widened as the younger Malfoy spoke about marrying Rose. He watched his daughter walk over to him, then looked over as Draco stormed form the room, disowning his son. Wow He looked over to Hermione, who, although she was shocked, looked happy. Of course Hermione would look at the bright side. He looked over to Ceallach. She was faced slightly away from the crowd, but he could see the pain clearly written on her face. She must have noticed him looking at her, because she put a hand to her face, wiping it, as though trying to physically rearrange her features. SHe smiled at him, in a reassuring 'your daughter is going to be fine' way. He sighed. Great He didn't want Rose marrying a Malfoy, even if the boy had just been disowned. The name! Rose would be a Malfoy! "No," he muttered. Hermione, Rose and Ceallach looked at him in shock.
Rose raised an eyebrow, turning from Scorpius to her father. "No?" she asked him.
"You will not marry my daughter," he fumed. "She deserves so much better!"

Scorpius was so stunned he didn't even realize that Ron had spoken. His father was forcing him to choose between his family, and the girl he loved. Surely an impossible choice. Then he looked up and met Rose's gaze. Not so impossible after all. He reached out and took Rose's hands in his. "Yes, of course we are." He faltered. He was assuming that she wanted it too. "Aren't we?" he asked, his voice uncertain now.

Rose's eyes widened. "Dad!" she exclaimed. She looked up at Scorpius, then moved so her tiny frame was placed between her father, and him. "Dad. Shut up. Now." SHe gave him a look that she had perfected from watching her mother deal with Ron. Hermione actually had to turn away so she didn't laugh. "Shut up?" Ron enquired, raising an eyebrow. "Don't tell me to shut up, young lady!""Ron. Be quiet. Let her be. She's proven she's more than capable of looking after herself. She thought about tell us like this. That's an extremely grown up thing to do. And poor Scorpius. Don't tell him he's not worth her. He's Rose's choice. Be happy for them Ron," Hermione intercepted, making Ron back down. Hermione winked at Rose, making her daughter's smile widen.Ron sighed. Walking up to the couple, he patted his daughter on the shoulder, then turned to Scorpius, holding out his hand. "Welcome to the family," he said, though not cold, not friendly either.Scorpius was so stunned he didn't even realize that Ron had spoken. Rose smiled, squeezing Scorpius' hand. Now her parents had said yes, everything was even better. "Yes. Of course we are," she said, mimicking his words, smiling like Cheshier Cat. She'd never been so happy in her life.

Vaguely, Scorpius realized that Rose's mother seemed to be on their side. He tried to smile at her, but he was so shattered by his father's words that he couldn't seem to arrange his face properly. It felt like everything he'd grown up with, all the warmth and security in his life, had just been ripped away from him. Nothing made sense any more. No - one thing still made sense. Rose had just said she wanted to marry him. When or how that would happen, he didn't know, they were so young. But she wanted to be with him, to raise their child together. He drew her close enough that he could put his arm around her protectively.
Then Rose's father walked towards him. Scorpius swallowed, but lifted his chin slightly, determined to meet whatever reaction was about to be unleashed on him.
He stared stupidly at Ron's hand, held out to him. Had he just said...? Rose's father had welcomed him... to their family? Gathering his scattered wits, he reached out and shook the older man's hand. "I - uh - thank you, sir." He glanced at Rose, then back at Ron, and added, "I love Rose, sir. I want to marry her, and take care of her. I promise you, I'll make her happy."

Now Ron thought about it, Scorpius technically wasn't a Malfoy anymore. Unless Draco decided he'd done the wrong thing. He watched the same gestures, Scorpius putting his arm around Rose, and Rose leaning into him, her arm going around his waist, like they were both trying to make the other feel safe. He sighed. His hand was still out, and Scorpius was just looking at it. He tried a reassuring smile - well the best he could - as the boy shook his hand. He listened to Scorpius' speal and looked down at Rose, who was looking up at Scorpius, a devoted look on her face. "I trust you will. If not..." he left the sentence hanging.
Hermione was standing beside Ron, and smiling. Scorpius seemed like a good kid. And Rose was happy. She wasn't freaking out about her situation. Her baby was growing up. She could have cried.

Rose was watching the proceedings in silence, her arm around Scorpius' waist protectively. But, she was ready to interject at anytime with a retort to her father's bad manners. But, she didn't need to. Her eyes were on their hands as Scorpius shook Ron's. Wow. She looked up at her mother, raising an eyebrow. Hermione gave her daughter an excited look. She grinned up at Scorpius as he spoke, devotion written all over her face. She loved him even more for this. This was crazy!

Scorpius tried to get a grip on himself. First his father had disowned him, and now Rose's parents seemed to have accepted him as their prospective son-in-law. He didn't know what he was supposed to do or say next. He looked at Rose, and the joy in her face reassured him. Whatever happened, at least she loved him as much as he loved her.
He looked at Mrs Weasley - she seemed a bit more approachable than her husband. "I - um - I don't know what we're supposed to do next. I mean, about... when... um... how we make arrangements to get married. Do we have to be a certain age or something? Who do we have to talk to ...?" He had a feeling Rose's mother would help them figure out all the details.

Out of the corner of her eye, Hermione could see Ron's shocked face as Scorpius spoke to her, and not him. She practically pushed him out the way, to put herself in the forefront. She gave the boy a reassuring smile. Motioning to the chairs, she pulled Ron into one beside her, and watched as the kids sat down as well. "Well, umm. You'd probably be best to wait until you are both 16 at least. Better if you were both of age. But, anytime you want, really. There's no real laws about it. It's not like with Muggles were everything is a piece of paper. Here it's a bond," she explained. "Of course, you'd have to speak to the Headmistress. And then find an officiator, or however you wanted to do it. And - uh -" She was going to say his parents. But, from the look of it, poor Scorpius didn't have parents anymore. She sighed. "Umm. And we," she said, jerking her head in Ron's direction. "Are fine with anything you two decide." She gave them both a smile.

Scorpius realized his mistake in addressing only Mrs Weasley. As he and Rose sat, still holding hands, he made an effort to include Rose's father in his gaze, as he said, "I was sixteen last month. If you both think we should wait until Rose is sixteen, then of course we will. It's just - well, I just want you to know, I only want to do what's best for Rose. I know we're both at school but..." He faltered suddenly, as the realization hit him. "Well - I suppose I won't be able to stay at Hogwarts now that my... my family..." To his horror, he felt a lump rising in his throat. Not only would he have to leave Hogwarts - he couldn't imagine that his father would continue to pay fees for a son he had disowned - but he probably wouldn't be allowed to see his mother again.
He swallowed and took a deep breath. "I - I'll have to find a job of some kind. I don't know what, but I'll do whatever I have to, to make sure that I can take care of Rose and the baby." This time, he was careful to speak to Ron as well as Hermione, determined to convince them that he was sincere.

Hermione sighed. As Scorpius spoke about not being able to stay at school, her eyes opened wide. She should have a very hard word to Draco. If they ever spoke! She looked at Ron. He shrugged his shoulders. "I would prefer for Rose to be sixteen as well. That's only in a few months, so you won't have to wait long." She sighed again. Ron was going to kill her. I can give you a job at St Mungo's. It would probably just be cleaning, and the like. Seeing as you don't really have any qualifications. And - uh - I'll subsidise your school fees. You can work during the holidays, and whatever I don't pay for your fees will come out of your pay. You'll be happier here with Rose anyway. And I'm sure Rose would rather you with her, as well." She tried not to look at Ron. But, out of the corner of her eye, she could see him looking at her in shock. She felt sorry for Scorpius. And, she wanted Rose to be happy. She didn't need to be stressing with a baby growing inside her.

Scorpius nodded. "Of course, I'll do whatever job is available," he assured her. Even if it was cleaning toilets! Then Hermione offered to subsidized his school fees, and his jaw dropped slightly. He supposed that she was thinking he would be able to get a better job to support Rose if he finished school, but even so. There was that inconvenient lump in his throat again. "That's - that's very generous of you. Thank you," he managed to say, though his voice sounded kind of hoarse. "I don't know if I'll be able to get any of my own money - there's some that's mine, not just a future inheritance, but my - my father will probably be able to stop me getting it anyway." He glanced at Rose, and managed to smile at her. "It doesn't matter, I'll find a way to look after Rose, whatever I have to do."

Hermione watched the reaction her proposal made with satisfaction. Rose looked pleasantly shocked, Scorpius looked utterly shocked, and Ron - Ron looked furious. He would just have to understand she was doing this for their daughter. She listened to Scorpius' stammerings, smiling. She nodded. "I'll talk to the Headmistress. Scorpius, it's okay. You just try to be a good partner for Rose," she told him. She didn't want everyone freaking out.
