Her mother had just left the school, and she had been 'released on parole' as she thought of it. Apparently, Sara and Professor Malfoy would organise her speding more time at home to learn to control her Elementalist powers. Jessika sighed, not stopping her furious walking until she reached the edge of the Forbidden Forest. She continued in for a little while, before collapsing on a fallen tree trunk.
Her head in her hands, she replayed the horific events of the past couple days. All starting with the stupid idea to get that stupid book from the library. Then, even dumber still, to try a spell. She sighed, remembering Eric's screams as suddenly he set alight, flames burning him. He wasn't badly hurt, Jessika had managed to call the flames off quickly. But still, the nervousness and excitement she was feeling had set her natural power off, and put it out of control.
So far as she knew, the boys hadn't been punished, only her. Detentions, and weekends at home, with her mother learning control. How friggin boring could you get! It was annoying, and ... and necessary. She did understand that.
She slid her fingers into her dark chocolate brown hair, and her lids closed over her fierry amber eyes. This was totally unfair.

Daemon clambered out of the lake, and dried himself off with a quick spell. Now that fall was approaching, the water was cooler, which was just what he liked. His friends still thought he was crazy, but by now they were used to the fact that Daemon went swimming whatever the temperature.
As he pulled his clothes back on, he glanced up, and saw Jessika striding across the grass towards the forest. So, she was out of solitary now (well, as solitary as one could be in a dormitory shared with four others). So it looked like she hadn't been expelled; when Jess's mom was seen arriving at the school, the rumour went round that she'd come to take Jess home.
Daemon felt a quick stab of relief - he really liked Jess, even though he hadn't quite got up the nerve yet to ask her out officially. If she'd been expelled... well, he didn't have to worry about that now.
But watching as she disappeared into the trees, Daemon thought that she was still upset. Obviously, even if she was allowed to stay at school, there'd be punishment, probably something horrible, with Professor Malfoy involved. Though come to think of it, they hadn't actually heard of anyone receiving a terrible punishment - Cori, for example, was still flaunting her prefect badge, even though one of their classmates, narrowly avoiding capture himself, had seen her get caught by the headmaster, trying to slip out of school at night. Far from being demoted, Cori seemed remarkably pleased with herself. Maybe she'd been able to talk her way out of trouble.
But poor Jess had obviously not got off so lightly, if her body language was anything to go by. Daemon set off in the same direction, jogging to catch up. He was just starting to think he must have lost her, when he spotted her, sitting on a fallen tree trunk in a little grassy clearing. She had her eyes closed, and her head in her hands, and looked completely dejected. Daemon couldn't bear to see her like that; he hurried forward.
"Jess? You okay? What did that bastard do to you?"

Jessika was still trying to work out how in the world she could have been so stupid. She wasn't usually one to go against the rules, or rather she never got caught going against the rules. "Stupid, stupid, stupid!" she grumbled quietly to herself. She was so caught up in her musings that she didn't hear someone walking up to her, until they spoke.
Her head shot up in surprise, and she wiped her eyes, although she knew there were no tears there. Like her mother at this age, she couldn't cry, the heat of her body dried them up before they had a chance to fall. "Daemon," she sighed. She'd thought it might be someone else. "I - I'm fine really." A horrible lie. And she knew it. She was shot at lying to someone like him.
"I have detentions every other day and I have to spend some weekends at home with Mum, learning to control my... to control me..." She sighed. "Nothing too bad though. Nothing I don't deserve."

Daemon frowned when Jess wiped her eyes. Even though there was nothing on her face, she'd obviously been crying. He looked at her skeptically when she said she was fine, but then she told him what her punishment was, and he nodded, sitting down on the tree trunk beside her. "That sucks. You'll be missing all the fun stuff on weekends. But..." he glanced at her, almost as if reassuring himself, "...it could have been worse. People were saying you'd been expelled."

Jessika chuckled breathily as Daemon said people had said she'd been expelled. He sat down beside her. "I very almost was. I think it was my mum that convinced him to keep me here." She tried a smile, that didn't work very well. "I'm not going anywhere for now."

Daemon nodded. "You know, Professor Malfoy is turning out to be... not so bad as we thought. I mean, he didn't punish me for what I said on first night - and Cori got caught trying to slip out, and she said he just gave her a good talking-to. And he's giving you another chance." He shrugged. "My mum always said he's a total bastard, but I dunno..."
He smiled at Jess, and risked putting an arm around her shoulders in a quick hug. "I'm glad you're not leaving. Cuz, well..." he hesitated, almost stumbling over the words, but finally managed to say, "...cuz I really like you, Jess."
He gulped slightly. He hadn't planned to come out and say it like that, but there it was, he'd told her.

"Yeah, my mum's not too keen on him either. Apparently he wasn't entirely nice to her when she first started going out with my dad when she was my age," Jessika murmured in agreement. "I heard about Cori. She has a note from him too, did you know. Saying she's allowed to patrol at night whenever she wants. I saw her showing another teacher to explain where she had been." She shrugged.
When his arm went around her, she leaned into his hug. As he spoke, she smiled slightly, and looked up at him. "I really like you too," she replied, and lay her head on his shoulder. He looked shocked he'd said it. She hoped he wouldn't take it back.

To Daemon's astonishment, Jessika snuggled into his hug, and actually put her head on his shoulder. Then she said she liked him too, and he could feel himself grinning like an idiot. "I... I didn't think... I mean, umm, you..." Now he sounded like an idiot, too. He didn't really know what he wanted to say. Well, acting on impulse had worked a few minutes ago, so he decided to go with his next impulse; he leaned down and kissed her.

Daemon started stumbling over words, seemingly unable to get out what he wanted to say. To be honest, Jessika didn't mind if he didn't speak at all. Just being with him right now was enough. She looke dup at him, just at the same moment he seemed to be leaning down to her. Then, their lips met. She sighed into the kiss, and shifted ever so slightly so it was comfortable to kiss back.

Daemon tensed as their lips met, he was rushing things, he wouldn't be surprised if Jess pulled back and got mad at him. But instead, she turned towards him, so it was easier for them to kiss.
He turned more towards her, sliding the fingers of one hand up into her hair, and putting his other hand tentatively on her waist. He deepened the kiss just a little bit, lightly nudging her tongue with the tip of his own. He was aware of the heat radiating from Jess; normally - being an ice elementalist - he disliked being too warm. But this was different, it felt good. It was... intoxicating.

Jessika sighed and moved her tongue to respond to his. She could feel his hand in her hair, and his other one on her waist. Her hands rested on his biceps. They say opposites attract. You couldn't get any more opposite than fire and ice. There seemed to be a tiny bit of 'power play' going on between their Elements. She could feel his coolness creeping into her, and her heat would flare up a little, but not too much it would be uncomfortable to him.

Jessika's response made Daemon confident enough to slide his tongue gently into her mouth. His heart was racing, he was actually perspiring - something that he hardly ever did! And there were definitely other reactions going on in his body, that were more familiar!
It was weird, that the two of them should find such a strong connection, their elements being at opposite ends of the spectrum, but maybe it was the fascination of the opposite... it was like... like... like sunlight sparkling on snow, he thought, uncharacteristically poetic.
He slid his hand up from Jess's waist, to cup her firm flesh; aware in the back of his mind that he was definitely pushing the pace now, and he could be in real danger of getting his face slapped.

Cassie lunged, her arm rising and falling rhythmically, as she slashed at the stinging nettles with a whippy willow branch. There was something acutely satisfying in seeing the tall stems fall before her onslaught. She loved thrashing nettles, and it was one of the few activities that excited her, that she was actually allowed to do. Adults seemed to find it vaguely amusing, but at least they didn't stop her. Though maybe if they'd known that she was pretending the nettles were her classmates...
This patch of nettles was now completely flattened. Cassie turned, looking for the next patch, when a movement at the edge of the edge of the Forbidden Forest caught her eye. She instinctively moved to lurk behind a huge oak tree, so she could watch without being seen.
She frowned as she recognised her cousin Daemon, walking along holding hands with another Slytherin girl. Cassie watched them wander past, kissing as they went. She could see that their clothes were rumpled, and Daemon's shirt seemed to be half-unbuttoned, and they both had a weird expression on their faces, sort of dopey but very happy. Cassie scowled; she didn't like to see other people happy. As the couple passed, she edged around the tree trunk so that they didn't see her.
She watched as they headed away towards the castle, and suddenly her dark expression changed to one of malevolent glee. She began to walk back towards the castle herself, taking care to stay well back from Daemon and Jessika. She knew exactly how to cause trouble for her cousin; and all it would take was a simple letter to her aunt...
