everybody says she's lookin' goodAND THE LADY KNOWS ITS UNDERSTOODSTRUTTER Cori sighed. "I'm hungry." Looking around, she decided she was more bored than anything. "I'm going to go look for the food trolley, and Al... You can hold fort," she said to Cassie, standing up and smoothing her skirt over her thighs. "I'll be back."
Wandering down the corridor, she looked in compartments as she passed. She smiled when she heard the voice she was sort of after. She was more after the food trolley, but oh well. Standing in the doorway to the compartment, she smiled. "Al, I finally found you!" she murmured silkily. "Daemon, Jessika," she said by way of greeting to the others. The air was a little thick in here. And Jessika looked acutely annoyed by something.

Daemon looked up as Cori sailed into the compartment. He stifled a smirk; he privately found Cori extremely entertaining. She tried way too hard, that one. Not his type - he liked girls who were more natural, maybe a little bit shy. He suddenly thought of the groundskeeper, Professor Desjardins's sister. Yeah, she was older, but she was very pretty, quiet, with the way she glanced at people shyly from those stunning blue eyes; he'd seen her very early one morning last June, just strolling in the grounds, wearing a short, floaty summer dress...
Daemon blushed slightly as he looked back out the window. He shouldn't be thinking like this about a member of the school staff! He hoped no-one had noticed, because he was sure he must have had a daft expression on his face as he thought about Sara Desjardins.

When he figured the blush had faded, Daemon turned back to face the others. He didn't fool himself about the way he felt about Sara; it was just a crush, he could enjoy looking at her, didn't mean he needed to do anything about it.
His gaze fell on Jessika; she was still glaring out of her window, apparently she'd really taken offense at his earlier remark. He should have kept his stupid joke to himself. He cleared his voice. "Umm, Jessika, I didn't mean to get grouchy about it. It's just... well you'd understand if you could see the way my mom looks at that picture..."

Well, Jessika accepted his peace overture, a little grudgingly perhaps, but it was better than nothing. Then he distinctly heard her murmur something, and he stared at her, startled. Was she a Legilimens or something? Had she read his mind when he was thinking about Sara? Then he suddenly realised what it must have looked like - Cori had walked in, and Daemon had blushed and gone into a daze.
"You - you thought I...?" He looked over at Cori then back at Jessika, and snorted with laughter. "Yes, I do," he said replying to her muttered comment. Leaning a little closer, he said quietly, "It wasn't her I was thinking about..." Okay, so it hadn't been Jessika either, but it wasn't like he was planning to ask Sara out. She was just an idle fancy. It was Jessika he'd been looking forward to seeing again all summer. So no harm in implying that it was Jessika he'd been in a daze about...

He was already feeling jumpy when Cori walked into the compartment, and he was pretty sure his face went slack. He saw Daemon turn away and raised an eyebrow in the other boy’s direction. It had been his opinion that Daemon and Jessika had been something like a couple. He nodded in Cori’s direction, muttering an explanation.
”Sorry, I was… avoiding James.”
Albus stood gracelessly in the booth, the exit now blocked by Cori. Again he couldn’t find the words to say, which was frustrating. When Daemon snorted slightly, Albus stifled a grin. His jade-colored eyes slid over to Cori, half expecting her to take offense.
Al straightened his Slytherin tie, wondering if he should say something about their house. It seemed to be the only thing all four had in common, besides age and dark hair. But Daemon had leaned in towards Jessika and had whispered something at her, and he didn’t want to butt in.
