Nathalie nodded. "It'll be more straightforward if I can tell Zach what it is that's worrying you. Actually Zach may be back for a couple of days next week, he's trying to get leave so we can..." She stopped short. Dammit, she was blushing again. Well, maybe it would distract Ceallach a little. "We, um - one of the reasons that I took this teaching job is that, well, we want to start a family, and we both think it will be much safer for me - and any future child - if I'm not out in the field."

Ceallach raised an eyebrow. "He's taking time of so you can start a family? Getting leave so you can fall pregnant. Interesting reason to take time off. Or, are you already pregnant?" she asked, her eyes training on Nathalie's super flat stomach. If she was, she wasn't very far along at all.

Nathalie grinned as she noticed Ceallach glance towards her stomach. "No, I'm not pregnant yet. We've only been trying for a couple of months. But there's a critical few days coming up, when I could get pregnant, so he's going try and get it off." She giggled at her unintended double meaning. "Of course, he's not telling his supervisor exactly why he wants the time. He's just saying there are, uh, family matters he needs to attend to." She smirked. "You have to admit it'd be a bit difficult for him to get me pregnant while he's in Sweden!"

Ceallach sighed. She wanted kids so bad. She never thought she'd want to be a mum, but since her and Aidan had gotten steady, she'd decided she did. Desperately. But, it seemed, it wasn't going to happen. Not with Aidan anyway. Unless he actually started talking to her. And sleeping with her. They hadn't had sex in ages. Ceallach couldn't even remeber their last time. "Well, that's great! Well, here's to hoping," she said, slipping a happy smile on her face, and raising her glass, before draining it.

Nathalie raised her glass in response to the toast. "Here's to hoping," she repeated. Maybe she shouldn't have brought it up, though, she'd noticed the faint shadow that had crossed Ceallach's face. She hadn't meant to rub it in how she and Zach were so happy together, when Ceallach was clearly worried about her relationship with Aidan. She took a sip of her firewhiskey, and said, "I'd better make the most of this, while I can still drink." Next time she saw Zach, she'd ask him to talk to Aidan. Even if things turned out badly for Ceallach, at least she wouldn't have this horrible uncertainty hanging over her. "Well, what's the latest school gossip?" she asked, hoping she was moving into a safer area of conversation.

"Hun. I'm really happy for you. I hope it all works out for you. I think you'll fit the mold perfectly," Ceallach said, sincerely. She really was happy for Nathalie and Zach. Really happy. "Latest school gossip? Hmm. There isn't much really. Except it's very obvious the Headmistress doesn't approve of me, in general. I think she has a thing against the younger teachers," she said, shrugging her shoulders, thankful for the change in subject.

Ceallach seemed genuinely happy for her, Nathalie noted with relief. The last thing she'd wanted to do was make her friend feel worse than she already did. She listened, frowning, to Ceallach's comment about the new Headmistress. "Well, I'm a year younger than you, so presumably she won't approve of me, either." This looked as though it could be interesting. Well, in her job she was used to encountering hostility - not to mention her mother's attitude when she was a kid. She thought she could cope with it from a headmistress!

Ceallach shrugged. "Everyone likes you Nat. I think she'll look passed your age. I just don't think she like's the fact I'm so unorganised. Well, I am organised, but not the textbook definition of the word. I'm sure you'll be fine," she chuckled.

Nathalie shrugged. "I guess it depends on how she feels about Aurors. Some people don't like us." Well, that was an understatement. A lot depended on which side people's loyalties had been in the wizard wars. She grinned. "I think I can handle it if she doesn't like me." She poured another firewhiskey. She was going to miss this if - when - she got pregnant, she reflected. "Anyone else I need to watch out for?"

Ceallach smiled, watching Nathalie pour herself another drink. "You're going through the drinks quicker than I am!" she laughed, pouring herself another as well. "Hmm. Not that I can think of at the moment, no." She sighed. This was nice. She'd missed everyone. Even though she was close with Nathalie, they didn't see each other nearly enough. "Angel's teaching here too. Muggle Studies. And Raven's the nurse. You know Raven right?" Ceal asked, thinking maybe the two women may not have crossed paths.

Nathalie's expression tightened slightly. She hadn't known that Raven was working here. "I remember her from school, of course. And I've encountered her from time to time in - other contexts." Her eyes hardened. All Aurors knew of Raven Athlon, knew the details of what she'd done. She remembered seeing her once, when she was escorting another prisoner to Azkaban. With an effort, she banished the memories, and said, "Yes, I knew Angel was here. Is she still as sweet as she was at school?"

Ceallach nodded. "Yeah. I was quite surprised when I heard they'd hired her. Seriously, who would give her a job after what she's done. And nurse too!" Ceallach commented. She smiled and nodded when asked about Angel. "Yes, of course! She teaches Muggle Studies. An absolute doll, just like at school."

Nathalie smiled. "Muggle studies? That was something I wanted to take at school, but my parents had a fit when I asked if I could. Father liked to wind mother up by letting me do things she didn't approve of, but he was totally on her side about that. Bigoted snobs!" She hadn't spoken to her parents since the day they'd declared she was no longer their daughter. In fact, the only member of her family she still had contact with was Sara. She frowned. Poor kid seemed set to drift through life. She'd been disowned for the same reason as Nathalie, she'd refused point blank to marry the man they'd chosen for her. But unlike Nathalie, she seemed to have no idea what to do with her life. Nat was glad she'd been able to offer her little sister a home. Sara was the youngest of her sisters, 8 years younger than Nathalie, but they were a lot alike, in personality as well as looks, so they'd always had a close relationship. Nathalie sighed. Sara needed a career she could follow, not just a series of short-lived jobs in shops.

"I took Muggle Studies, much to my parent's dismay. Oh well, it was their choice to not to talk to me, and let me go off on my own," Ceallach said, shrugging her shoulders. "Do you speak to any of your sisters any more? How are they?" she asked. She was pretty sure they'd all stopped talking to her, like her parents. But, who knows.

Nathalie nodded. "Yes, my youngest sister. Actually Sara started living with us last summer. My parents tried to force her to get married, and she refused. So they disowned her. The wizard they wanted to marry her to is almost seventy! They'd been planning it for years, but they had to wait till his previous wife died; that's why it didn't happen as soon as she came of age." Nathalie sighed. "Poor kid. Apparently they announced the engagement as a done deal during a ball. There was a horrible scene the next morning - she told them she wasn't going to marry him, and they threw her out with just the clothes she was wearing. She's still not over it, not by a long way. She's been working in a shop on Diagon Alley, but I'm trying to find a job for her in Hogsmeade."
